OUR

HISTORY

Our very first Program, IMEBAC, launched in the year 2000. Emerging as a beacon of hope for ex-refugees in the aftermath of Guatemala's internal armed conflict. Rooted in the vision to provide continuity in education for those displaced by the conflict, particularly the Communities of Population in Resistance (CPR), this initiative took shape in Zona Reina, El Quiché.

Over the years, the project has become a transformative force, offering not only secondary education but also fostering the dreams and aspirations of the students it serves. With a proud history, 685 students have successfully graduated from this high school, marking a remarkable milestone in the journey of these ex-refugees. The impact extends beyond the graduation stage, with alumni choosing diverse career paths, including notable fields such as medicine and law. To this day, the Zona Reina Education Project stands as a testament to the power of education to break barriers, empower communities, and pave the way for a brighter future for those who once faced displacement and extreme adversity.

In 2016, the Las Maripositas project took flight. Driven by an urgent need to provide practical support and assistance to special needs individuals in Guatemala - individuals who are trapped by the lack of access to vital resources like physical therapy and education. This initiative was conceived to address the significant gaps in care for a vulnerable community, emerging as a response to the critical need for specialized attention for the disabled community. Founded on the Christ-like principles of compassion and inclusivity, Las Maripositas sought to create a sanctuary where individuals with special needs could undergo a metamorphosis through tailored physical therapy and educational resources.

The project's overarching goal, like the transformative journey of a butterfly, extends beyond enhancing the physical well-being of its participants; it aims to empower them with the tools and knowledge necessary for a more independent and fulfilling life. From its inception, Las Maripositas has embodied a commitment to overcoming obstacles, fostering growth, and championing the rights of special needs individuals in Guatemala.

In 2019, Casa de Refugio was formed. “House of Refuge” is a nursing home created for and dedicated to providing care for abandoned elderly individuals in Guatemala. Recognizing the unmet needs of seniors who lack familial support, this facility serves as a practical solution for those navigating their later years alone. Since its inception, "The House of Refuge" has prioritized essential medical support while fostering a sense of community among its residents.

This nursing home, has become more than just a residence; it functions as a supportive community where elderly individuals find physical and emotional comfort while receiving essential healthcare. Staff members are committed to providing quality medical assistance and creating a space where residents can share experiences and life together. With a focus on practical care, "The House of Refuge" strives to meet the physical needs of abandoned seniors, ensuring they receive the necessary support in their daily lives.
