Holistic Education for Civil War Survivors & Their Families.
When the Civil War ended in 1996 many refugee communities were displaced by the Guatemalan military. These CPR's (Communities of People in Resistance) formed primitive villages all around the country. In 2001, this program was initiated following the request from several CPR village leaders from the Zona Reyna area for an education for the children of their community. To this day, this program aims to equip these children with a wide range of values, skills, knowledge, and abilities that are necessary for their growth and success as individuals in the modern world. La Nueva Esperanza, meaning "The New Hope," was named to reflect the hope and opportunities it brought and continues to bring to these communities.
The Project covers three levels of education: Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary, and Tertiary (Undergraduate and graduate)
The Instituto Mixto de Educación Básica por Cooperativa (IMEBAC) offers a Lower Secondary Education where students build upon foundational knowledge and skills, not only academically, but both physically and spiritually as well.
El instituto Mixto de Educación Diversificada por Cooperativa (IMEDC) focuses on educating students in an Upper Secondary education, addressing not only academic needs but also emphasizing personal and social development. This approach aims to nurture students and prepare them for success in various aspects of life beyond the classroom.
In 2010, an extension of Universidad Mariano Gálvez was added to the program. This allows students to stay in the village while pursuing a tertiary education instead of travel the 10 hours every week to the University in Santa Cruz del Quiche.
At La Nueva Esperanza Educational Program, we have implemented educational programs that provide a comprehensive, high-quality education, fostering broad and well-rounded development.
